Free computer recycling program allows businesses to recover maximum value from retired electronic assets

Edison, NJ (August 20, 2010) - In past years, there hasn't been enough value in most electronic equipment to cover the costs of proper disposal. Many electronics recyclers would ship e-waste overseas to countries where it more often caused harm to workers and the environment.

Finally, there is an alternative.

Due to advancements in technology and record high commodities markets, Hesstech, an award-winning electronics recycling company and e-Stewards Founder, has announced a new domestic recycling program offering free computer and electronics processing.

"In the past it's been impossible to compete with recyclers who were willing to ship e-waste overseas to circumvent domestic recycling costs. Due to the recent advancements in domestic shredding technology and record high commodity markets we can now offer free recycling for computers, laptops, cell phones and more," explains Hesstech President David Zimet.

When businesses need to dispose of retired electronics, through Hesstech, they can recover value in two ways. Reusable equipment is refurbished and resold to wholesale or retail markets, while obsolete equipment is shredded domestically assuring all materials are properly recycled and brand integrity is protected.

"Legitimate domestic processing not only protects our customers' brand, when done right it can produce enough revenue to generate a cash return instead of fees. It also significantly cuts the cost of due diligence and saves American jobs," says Mr. Zimet.

While the exporting of electronic equipment for recycling is likely to continue for some time, businesses can take comfort knowing they have a transparent domestic solution that is secure, low-cost and environmentally sound.

Hesstech, LLC
For more than 13 years, Hesstech has been recognized as an industry pioneer having established environmentally sound recycling solutions and innovative techniques for recovering reuse value from retired electronics. The only two and new, U.S. based electronics recycling certification programs (e-Stewards and R2) were influenced greatly by Hesstech's involvement on steering committees and as a trusted advisor. Among the first to develop technology to track the custody of materials from the point of origin to the final destination, Hesstech was awarded a patent for its proprietary STAR SystemSM software, which enables real time web reporting for services throughout the US and most of Canada. Hesstech offers far more than asset recovery or recycling services for retired IT equipment. Developing technology to assist customers in reducing the costs of downsizing, national consolidation projects, or moving offices or data centers, are just a few examples of Hesstech's range of technical capabilities and innovative thinking. Perhaps the greatest benefit and reason for using Hesstech is the top rated customer service, responsiveness, and commitment to provide the best value in the industry.

e-Stewards
The e-Stewards Initiative is a project of the Basel Action Network (BAN), which is a 501(c)3 non-profit, charitable organization of the United States, based in Seattle, Washington is dedicated to prevent toxic materials in electronics from continuing to cause long term harm to human health and the environment, particularly in countries with developing economies.

In November, 2008, over 14 companies and 6 foundations demonstrated their commitment to raising the bar for recycling practices and became e-Stewards Founders. These organizations donated time, in-kind services, and funding to create the nation's most robust electronics recycling certification program. Hesstech is an e-Stewards founder.

USEPA funded Responsible Recycling Practices (R2)
The Responsible Recycling (R2) Practices for Use in Accredited Certification Programs is a set of guidelines for accredited certification programs to assess electronics recyclers' environmental, worker health and safety, and security practices.

In January 2006 through October 2008, the EPA funded the facilitation of a multi-stakeholder group to develop the responsible electronics recycling practices. Hesstech suggested the formation and participated on the Steering Committee that developed the majority of the provisions in the R2 document.
