Companies continue to waste valuable reclaimable dollars by tossing away network hardware. Author Brad Reese, blog contributor to NetworkWorld discusses the need for IT folks to pay more attention to the decommissioned network and other IT assets. Too often, the fact that many IT Directors are too busy to devote time to this effort causes companies to lose a lot of value.
As he points out, selling assets on eBay or through any other remarketing channel takes time and attention. It is not an undertaking haphazardly executed and, as he recommends, is one that should be fulfilled by an organization with the expertise and infrastructure able to handle it.
Amazingly, if done properly, a company can receive a substantive check for recovered assets.
Putting assets in a closet is not the solution. In fact, as a CISCO expert notes time is money - a shift in the market or new product can cause an asset to lose up to 60% of its value in a single day.
The recommendations are:
- Put a decommissioning plan in place before undertaking new procurement.
- Decommission and process for recycling or remarketing immediately.
- Work with an asset recovery specialist, look for one with the infrastructure, markets, and expertise to obtain maximum value for your assets.
Working with a firm like Hesstech can save you time, recoup value, and help you get your recycling programs in place. If you are "too busy", just pick up the phone and let Hesstech do the work for you.
