A bill recently passed in North Carolina requires manufacturers to
register with the state, create a recycling plan for their products and pay an annual fee.
Manufacturers can handle most of the recycling themselves or pay a higher fee and
allow local governments to run the program.
North Carolina had already implemented a law banning the disposal of computers and
televisions. This new bill pushes back the start date of the ban from January to July.
The electronics recycling bill only requires the governor's signature to become law.
